Nintendo dropped a ton of details about the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game during their E3 Direct yesterday, and naturally, a lot of Kirby came with it! While we don't have any new fighters from the Kirby series (yet), there's still a lot to be noted. Let's take a look!
First up, as Smash Ultimate will include all previous fighters from the Super Smash Bros. series, Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede return with glorious new renders.
Aside from characters, the stage selection is the second most important part to a Smash Bros. game. The more digging people do, the more it seems like every previous stage from the Smash Bros. series will be returning as well. As of right now, the Kirby stages we found are Dream Land, Green Greens, Halberd, and The Great Cave Offensive.
You'll find most of the Kirby-related items from the past, including the Warp Star, Star Rod, and Maxim Tomato. During one of the Treehouse demonstrations, it was mentioned that the Warp Star has a new property, as holding up will now delay the slam back to the ground. But that's not all, as one new Kirby character is joining the list, and that's a Bomber enemy.
Bombers can pack quite a punch in the Kirby games by walking off cliffs and exploding when it hits the ground. Looking at one of Ganondorf's provided screenshots (above), we can see that it will act the same in Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Knuckle Joe also returns as an Assist Trophy.
Almost every fighter has had some sort of update to them going into Smash Bros. Ultimate, whether it be complete overhauls or a new coat of paint. Here are the changes we found for the Kirby cast:
Kirby's dash attack has been changed back to the Burning tackle he had in Melee, after two games of using Yo-Yo's Break Spin. He can also now transform into a Sheikah treasure chest with his Stone attack. Finally, the pose he strikes in one of his taunts has been changed to be more reminiscent to that of the one he does in his games, as seen in the first image of this post.
King Dedede has received a new Final Smash that's based on his Masked appearance from Kirby Super Star Ultra. Inhaling one of the Gordos he tosses will now make him spit it out, too.
Finally, Meta Knight's alternate color scheme based on Galacta Knight now looks even more like Galacta Knight.
That's everything new we could find when it comes to Kirby representation in Smash Bros. Ultimate! If we missed anything significant, let us know! The game is truly looking to be the ultimate Smash Bros. game in more ways than one, but could it finally be the time for another Kirby rep to join the roster? Personally, I'm rooting for Bandana Waddle Dee to make the cut so the whole Return to Dream Land crew can be reunited! What are your thoughts on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
