Today, the pink puff crossed a significant milestone -- and one that is extremely fitting for his anniversary year. According to Nintendo of Japan's latest financial results, Kirby and the Forgotten Land for the Nintendo Switch surpassed 5.27 million copies sold, making it the best-selling Kirby game of all time.
The previous record holder for the best-selling Kirby game was Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy, which launched over thirty years ago in 1992 and accumulated total lifetime sales of 5.13 million copies.
When Kirby and the Forgotten Land launched last March, the game was able to move an impressive 4.53 million copies by May. From April to September 2022, Kirby and the Forgotten Land sold 2.61 million copies.
While total sales numbers for Kirby's Dream Buffet were not provided by Nintendo of Japan, the company did report strong sales growth in its exclusive digital content. Nintendo labeled the game as one example of the driving factors in the rising number alongside Nintendo Switch Online memberships and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's DLC Booster Course Pass.
When more financial information regarding Kirby is released by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, we will be sure to keep you all updated.
